On June 27 at 2 pm, a seminar will be held on \"Changes in terrestrial biota caused by global warming and glacier retreat in the Pamir.\"<\/p>\n
The lecture will be given by Alidovar Sodatsairov - a member of the Conservation Botany Team of the PAS Botanical Garden.<\/p>\n
Climate warming is having a tremendous impact on shrinking glaciers around the world. Tajikistan, especially in the eastern part of the country, has several hundred mountain glaciers. At about 88 kilometers long, the Fedchenko Glacier is the largest mountain glacier in the world. Unfortunately, it has shrunk by several kilometers in recent decades.<\/p>\n
The shrinking of glaciers is causing drastic changes in the species compositions of the vegetation of moraines, snowfields and adjacent scree. The encroachment of ecologically alien and sometimes invasive species is becoming a real threat to these remarkable ecosystems. Therefore, the research team of PAN Botanical Garden - CZRB in Powsin is embarking on a project to study the third pole, the flooded areas of the Central Asian mountains.<\/p>\n
The seminar will be held in English.<\/p>\n
