The process of vascular segment growth and the determination of the course of structures responsible for the transport of water along with mineral salts in plants was usually explained by the action of auxin (IAA). However, recent studies provide strong evidence for the dependence of the distribution of PIN proteins responsible for polar auxin transport - one of the most important plant hormones - on the mechanical stress present in tissues\/cells of plant organisms. The paper discusses various aspects related to the phenomenon under consideration. The authors proposed an approach to integrate the biomechanical factor with the widely recognized hormonal regulation, which in the future will allow to significantly expand the understanding of the mechanism of vascular formation, as well as further progress in the study of the water transport system in many plant species.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Miodek A.<\/strong>, <strong>Gizinska A.<\/strong>, Italian W., <strong>Kojs P.<\/strong> 2021. what do we know about growth of vessel elements of secondary xylem in woody plants? <em>Biological Reviews<\/em>.
